This is good news in prospect for France. The laboratory Xenothera sis à Nantes is currently experimenting with a treatment for Covid-19. And these trials have reportedly produced encouraging results on the new coronavirus and its South African, Danish, British, Brazilian and Scottish variants. The new treatment has been tested in around twenty French hospitals. Its effectiveness against these variants would therefore have been proven. The director of Xénothéra is already thinking of producing the first doses of the treatment called XAV-19. “We are actively preparing our production capacities in order to be able to treat sick people” said Odile Duvaux, very optimistic.
In order to get there as quickly as possible, she appeals to the government. “We recently read that French research was lagging behind on the epidemic, we believe that no, on the contrary, our company has an advantage which gives it the lead over many therapeutic alternatives, in particular from across the Atlantic. As a French biotech, we need this support, in order to be able to produce hundreds of thousands of doses in the coming months ” she declared.
“National research priority“
A French vaccine could indeed relieve the government since the vaccination campaign is delayed because of the doses of American vaccines which are not delivered on time. Remember that last January, the treatment of Xénothéra, labeled “National research priority” was still in the testing phase. The Nantes laboratory indicated that it was “Intended for patients with moderate Covid-19”.
