French Textile Companies Collaborate to Provide School Uniforms for National Education

These are two textile companies that have decided to produce in France: 1083, based in Romans-sur-Isère, produces jeans and “Le Slip Français” produces underwear and sweatshirts. They join forces to offer National Education different uniforms, without commenting on this measure. The Minister of National Education announced this Sunday, February 25 that 92 establishments had applied to have the uniform adopted from the next school year.

People are becoming more and more careful about what they buy. It would be good if public procurement was also in this process” explains Thomas Huriez, the boss of 1083. Several models have already been presented to National Education. But it is the establishments themselves which will choose the uniforms if they decide to implement this measure.

Will there be uniforms in Drôme-Ardèche schools?

For the moment, those involved in the matter remain very discreet. The ministry does not communicate the list of educational establishments which have applied. He explains that it is the school councils for primary education and the boards of directors for middle and high schools which must adopt or not the measure. Same response to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region: President LR Laurent Wauquiez announced that five high schools were committed to adopting uniforms at the start of the next school year. For the moment only the Sainte-Thècle private school group in Chamalières in Puy-de-Dôme has made itself known.

President LR of the Ardèche departmental council is very favorable to the uniform. For the moment the department is consulting the parents of the students. The survey has already taken place in three colleges out of the 39 in the department. According to Olivier Amrane, 57% of parents spoke favorably.

A much-discussed measure

It must be said that the measure is not unanimous. The main federation of parents, FCPE, believes that the measure does not meet any particular needs. Most unions contest the wearing of uniforms. “We would do better with this money to buy teaching materialse” judges the FSU.

Some establishments already use a form of uniform: the Saint-Joseph private school in Valence has made the blouse compulsory from kindergarten to CM2. The parents of students at this establishment wish to offer a unique blouse for all students.
