French State Auctions Luxury Confiscated Items to Raise Funds for Anti-Drug Programs

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – A white Lamborghini car… Louis Vuitton bags… and Rolex watches… one of the luxury spoils confiscated from drug dealers, and sold at auction during an “extraordinary sale” by the French state, earlier this week.

The Agency for the Management and Recovery of Seized and Confiscated Assets (Agrasc), in cooperation with the National Directorate for State Interventions in the Field of Property (DNID), organized the auction on Tuesday, and it brought about 1.5 million euros, or 1.65 million dollars.

He was an unusual sight in the historic Palais de Justice in Paris, which houses the Paris Court of Appeal.

“Auction is a common occurrence,” said Nicolas Bisson and Alain Comiet, directors of Agrasc and DNID, in a statement published in the sale catalogue. And that “Domaine (goods that belong to the state) auction is also common. But an auction jointly organized by Agrasc and Domaine is a rare event.”

It is reported that similar sales have been conducted in the past.

But, for the first time, all proceeds will be donated to the Interministerial Mission on Drugs and Addictive Behavior.

The auction raised 1.46 million euros, including 185,000 euros from overseas bidders, according to an Agrasc tweet.

The most exciting piece in the auction was a 2017 white Lamborghini, which sold for 138,000 euros, or $152,000.
