French soldier killed in mortar attack in Mali

A French soldier has been killed in a mortar attack in Mali. That has the Elysée announced. The soldier, Alexandre Martin, was killed in an attack near Gao, in the southeast of the country. The target of the mortar attack was the military camp of Operation Barkhane, the French-led mission that has been fighting jihadist rebel movements since 2014.

President Macron’s office said nine people were injured in the attack. The perpetrators were also eliminated.
