French Sailing Piloting Team Prepares for World Cup and European Championships
The French sailing piloting team is gearing up for the upcoming World Cup, which will also serve as the European championship for countries in the “old continent”. The event is set to take place in Eloy, United States, in October.
Piloting under canopy involves a jump at an altitude of 1,500 meters, without free fall. Jumpers reach speeds between 110 and 140 km/hour, spending about a minute under the parachute. The discipline consists of three categories: precision, distance, and speed, with each jump taking place over a body of water.
To prepare for this major event, Les Bleus, including Aurélien Lemaire, Gérard Bernside, and Kevin Techer, along with coaches Philippe Schorno and Cédric Veiga Rios, spent a week at the Parachute School at the Orléans Loiret center in Saint-Denis-de-l’Hôtel from June 19 to 23.
The French team has set big goals for the competition. As the reigning team world champions in 2022 and with Cédric Veiga Rios finishing second individually, they are aiming for the team gold medal in the United States. Additionally, they are targeting four individual podium finishes in the European championship and two individual podium finishes in the World Cup.
