French President Emanuel Macron said what consequences should be expected if the Administration of President Joe Biden stops helping Kyiv.
The politician expressed confidence that this should not happen, but emphasized: if the United States leaves Ukraine in a difficult situation, it will lose the trust of the world, its influence, as well as international authority.
“It must be recalled that the American administration works very closely with us, the Europeans have achieved a lot thanks to this cooperation. They have been with us all the time. It is in the interests of America to remain in the long term, regardless of the political situation, on the side of Ukraine. Because in Ukraine “The fate of international law is being decided, the fate of liberal democracy is being decided. Therefore, I believe, I am convinced that America’s strategic interest is to continue supporting Ukraine, to be close to us,” the French leader said in an interview with Natalya Moseychuk.
He emphasized that the American people should be thanked for what they have already done. Macron also believes that Europe should in any case have a backup plan, because Ukraine is an existential issue for it.
“We, Europeans, alone should prepare for various scenarios. Because for us, Ukraine is an existential question. If you lose this war, we in Europe will not be able to have any European security. Therefore, we must prepare for all possible scenarios. We need convince all European countries to build their own defense and security policy…”, Macron believes.
The politician emphasized: now the Ukrainian nation, each in his own body, is suffering from Putin’s war, but at the same time, this is how the fate of Europe is being decided.
“You, each in your own body, in your own context, are suffering, your families are suffering in this war. What is happening today in Ukraine is the fate of Europe is being decided. To be an influential authoritative force in the world politically and diplomatically,” he said .
