French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed, on Wednesday, that he would try to pressure for international striker Kylian Mbappe to remain in the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain, after the latter’s letter to the capital club, in which he confirmed that he would not activate the renewal clause for an additional year.
In response to a question from a fan of the Capital Club on the sidelines of the “Vivatec” exhibition in Paris, Macron said, “I have no information” about Mbappe’s future.
“But I will try to press for” the France captain to stay with his current team, he added.
Doubts swirled about the future of the French league’s top scorer for the fifth consecutive season in Paris, after the “Roosters” striker told AFP on Tuesday that he had not discussed the issue of extending his contract with his club beyond next year.
Mbappe and his accompanying delegation spoke the next day after he sent a message to the Parisian club confirming that he would not take the option to stay in the ranks of the French champions until 2025.
This raised more than one question mark about the 24-year-old striker, who has become the focus of interest for many European clubs, after the departure of Argentine star Lionel Messi from the “Parc des Princes” after his contract to Inter Miami expired.
The Qatari-owned Saint-Germain hopes to benefit from selling his star in the transfer market, rather than giving him up for free at the end of next season with the expiration of his contract.
And it is not the first time that Macron has dealt with Mbappe’s future at the Parisian club. Last year, the 2018 World Cup champion revealed that he had talked about his potential move to Real Madrid with Macron, saying he appreciated the “good advice” of the French president, who wanted him to stay with Saint-Germain.
