French President Macron Urges Citizens to Exercise 30 Minutes a Day Ahead of Olympics

President Emmanuel Macron called on the French this Monday, January 8, to play sports “at least 30 minutes a day”, in a short video published on the social network X 200 days before the start of the Olympic Games.

With boxing gloves tied on his shoulder, in sportswear and a punching bag in the background, the French head of state improvises himself as a sports coach for the duration of his short message: I invite you all to do 30 minutes each at least a day of sport, I hope more if you can, but at least 30 minutes a day.

“A lot of medals”

It’s good for health, it’s good for many things, it’s also a way of having Games that will remain in our everyday practices, he adds, while the 2024 Olympics begin on July 26, a major event in the middle of his second five-year term.

It’s in 200 days, it starts now, he says, recalling that the executive played sport “a great national cause this year” and that physical activity has already been reinforced at school, with 30 minutes of compulsory sport for all primary and “no more sports in college”.

A sort of general mobilization that he wants to see consecrated with many French medals, but also ever more amateur athletes. According to the Élysée, the objective of 3 million additional practitioners set in 2017 has now been achieved and the ambition is now to double the stake by 2027.
