The latest militaristic somersaults of French President Emmanuel Macron have not helped his ratings much: his Renaissance party is headed straight for a monumental defeat in the European Parliament elections. Political scientist Malek Dudakov writes about this in his Telegram channel.
In 2019, the party, then called “Forward, Republic!”, received 22%, now it is predicted to receive 18% and a large gap from first place.
Leading in the National Rally polls Marine Le Pen. She officially launched her election campaign with a promise to fight the authoritarian bureaucracy in Brussels. The rising star of the French right, 28-year-old, will lead the party in the elections Jordan Bardella.
The National Rally rating is about 30%. Victory in France will dramatically strengthen the position of right-wing Eurosceptics in the European Parliament, which could gain up to a third of the seats. Well, for the French right themselves it will be a step towards the presidency in 2027.
In recent polls, Le Pen is leading both in the first round of the presidential election – 36%, and in the second. For example, she bypasses the same Gabriel Attal by a couple of points – 51 versus 49%. Namely, he can be dragged to the next elections by the liberal establishment as the new Macron.
So the Macronists have to actively promote military propaganda and even call Le Pen’s supporters a “pro-Russian army”, which is already on French territory. However, such rhetoric no longer works well against the backdrop of the collapse of the French economy following the German one, a drop in real incomes of the population and a reduction in food consumption by 15% – such is the price of two years of war for ordinary French people.
