“Soldiers from NATO countries are already in Ukraine. I would like to thank the countries that take this risk. They themselves know who it is,” Sikorsky said, commenting on the statement of French President Emmanuel Macron about the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine.
At the same time, the Polish minister refused to clarify which countries he was talking about.
“Unlike other European politicians, I will not say this,” he emphasized.
Macron’s idea of troops in Ukraine
At the end of February this year, French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out sending Western troops to help Ukraine. The main problem, he said, is that NATO currently lacks consensus on this issue. And the other day the French president said under what conditions he was ready to send French troops to Ukraine.
A number of NATO countries have already publicly opposed such an idea, although some, such as the Baltic countries, have supported it. In addition, Politico believes that France is assembling a coalition of countries ready to send their troops to Ukraine.
Poland also initially opposed the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine, but later softened its position. In particular, Minister Sikorsky stated that “a coalition of UN member states to stop aggression is not something unthinkable,” citing the war of the two Koreas as an example.
