French President Emmanuel Macron, his wife Brigitte and their entourage have landed in Bern-Belp. The plane with the distinguished visitor from the neighboring country touched down shortly before 2 p.m.
Federal President Alain Berset received the French delegation at the airport, as a reporter from the Keystone-SDA news agency observed. It was announced that this would also include Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, Research Minister Sylvie Retailleau, Industry Minister Roland Lescure and State Secretary Laurence Boone, who is responsible for European issues.
According to tradition, the entire Federal Council then receives the presidential couple with military honors at the Bundesplatz in Bern. The official welcome speeches then follow in the foyer of the Federal Palace before the political discussions take place in the Bernerhof.
On the second day of the visit, Federal President Alain Berset and his French counterpart visit the Jean Monnet Foundation in Lausanne. The archives of the pioneer of European unification are stored there.
