A Frenchman won almost all of the prizes awarded during the Olivier Messiean International Competition. The 3rd edition was held in Grenoble.
Orlando Bass did not go into detail, in front of more than 2,000 spectators and a jury chaired by Michaël Levinas with Marie-Josèphe Jude, Jean-François Heisser, Florent Boffard and Louise Bessette.
The French pianist of British origin won three of the four prizes up for grabs during the final of the Olivier Messiaen International Competition which rewards pianists under 30 every two years.
At the end of the competition, which took place from November 2 to 4 at the MC2 in Grenoble, Orlando Bass won the Olivier Messiaen Grand Prix, ahead of Miharu Ogura. He shares with the Japanese pianist the Prize for the best interpretation of the works of Olivier Messiaen.

For the Prize for best interpretation of new works, Orlando Bass tied with Hungarian-Romanian pianist Alexa Stier who won the Audience Prize.
Born in 1994, he studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) in piano classes, chamber music, accompaniment, improvisation, singing direction and writing – sorry! Orlando Bass masters a wide range which makes him, at 29 years old, an accomplished pianist, harpsichordist and composer.

Winner of numerous prizes, the 29-year-old pianist has recorded several discs on harpsichord or piano, for the labels Maguelonne, Hortus, Odradek, Triton and La Scala Music and is preparing, for 2024, an album dedicated to the first sonatas of Serge Prokofiev and by Béla Bartók, with violinist Rachel Koblyakov. Since this year, Orlando Bass has been following a course of Concert exam (Artist Diploma) with the famous pianist Kirill Gerstein at the Hanns University Eisler de Berlin.
