French Pianist David Frey: A Mastery of Reflection, Emotion, and Intellect

“His interpretations are musically polished, technically elegant and vividly demonstrate the intellectual component of music,” – this is how the newspaper described David Frey’s performance The New York Times.

The French pianist creates an unusual balance between reflection and emotionality, technical care and poetry of playing. David Fre’s approach to work includes three strict basic rules – “sing, swing and think!”. The rule “swingo” is related to the rhythmic structure of the composition, while “sing” and “think” reflect the performer’s own personality. “I try to make the instrument sing. The piano is wonderful, but to play you need to overcome the limits imposed by the nature of the percussion instrument. I prefer not the acrobatics of the keys, but the thoughtfulness of the playing. My approach is ten percent finger work and ninety percent intellect,” he explains .

“I want to show the audience the beauty that usually goes unnoticed. The artist must help the viewer and the listener to see, hear and feel,” David Fre is convinced.
