According to preliminary data, in the first round of elections to the French parliament, the Nupes bloc of leftist parties, led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, and the Ensemble bloc, led by the president Emmanuel Macron jumped ahead, informs Le Figaro.

According to the French Interior Ministry, the left receives 25.7% of the vote, while Macron’s bloc received 25%.

In third place is the party Rassemblement national Marine Le Penwhich went to the polls on its own, with a score of 19.3%.

As Le Figaro notes, the Macron bloc has a chance to get a majority of votes in the second round of the June 19 parliamentary elections.

Macron needs to win an absolute majority in the French parliament (at least 289 seats) to ensure the implementation of the planned economic reforms.

Preliminary data show that about 48 million voters took part in Sunday’s voting. As of 17:00 local time, the turnout in the parliamentary elections in France was 39.42%, which is less than in 2017 (40.75%).
