Krejčíková won the WTA premier title in Strasbourg on Saturday and was steam-tired in the match against Plíšková. More often she made a slight mistake, in the first set she still reacted to the loss of the serve to 4: 5, but at 5: 6 Plíšková finished the first set with an ace.
Even at the beginning of the second set, Krejčíková was in trouble and after a double mistake she let her opponent take the lead 1: 2. At 1: 3, however, she got her break back and broke Plíšková’s service again in the tenth game. In the third set, thanks to a patient and clever game, she had the upper hand and used the third match ball with a winning forehand. Kristýna Plíšková did not cross the 1st round for the first time this year, not even in Paris.
“I definitely appreciate the promotion very much, it’s a grand slam and I want to play well. The Czech derby is always mentally demanding and for me it was also physically demanding,” Krejčíková told reporters. “I’m glad that even though I lost the first set, I didn’t succeed and I played very badly, so I found the inner strength. I wanted to fight, not give up and in the end I succeeded and I’m in the second round,” she added.
Last year’s eight-finalist of the tournament, Krejčíková, will face the winner of the match between the American Venus WIlliamsová and the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrovová in the next round.
The suspicious car postponed the start of the program
A suspicious car parked near the stadium delayed the start of Tuesday’s Roland Garros tennis program on Simonne Mathieu’s court. The game started with a delay of about half an hour.
According to the Reuters agency, it was a stolen car, which the police had to inspect for security reasons due to explosives. “It was a normal intervention. Everything is back to normal,” said a spokesman for the French Tennis Association.
