French newspaper: Saint-Germain has agreed with Messi to extend his contract

French newspaper Le Parisien reported on Wednesday that Lionel Messi, who won the World Cup in Qatar with Argentina, has reached an agreement with French Premier League club Paris Saint-Germain to stay with the club at least for the 2023-2024 season.

Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi, 35, helped Argentina win the World Cup by beating France on penalties in Sunday’s final.

“In early December, in the midst of the World Cup, an agreement was reached (with Messi) to stay at least for another season,” the newspaper said, without citing any sources.

No PSG officials were immediately available for comment.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said this month that Messi was happy with the Ligue 1 champions, adding that contract extension discussions would take place after the World Cup.

Messi, who has scored 12 goals and sent 14 assists for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions this season, joined the French capital outfit from Barcelona in 2021 on a two-year deal.
