French Minister of National Education unveils plan to promote social diversity in schools, including private organizations under contract.

The Minister of National Education intends to involve teaching under contract in the effort of social diversity at school, the plan of which is unveiled on Thursday. But Pap Ndiaye will not impose anything on these establishments, however funded by the State.

To the question: “Do families who choose the private sector want social diversity?” Jean-François Canteneur, diocesan director of Catholic education in Paris – the equivalent of a rector on the public side – retorts bluntly: “Clearly not. They are not looking for people who are different from them. The answer has the merit of being honest. But it clears the very responsibility of private education under contract (which educates 2 million young people, or 17% of French students), increasingly pointed out for the flagrant lack of social diversity in its establishments.
