The Vosgien Sébastien Raoult, arrested in Morocco on May 31, 2022 and then extradited to the United States, is currently detained in Seattle. Along with other French people, he is suspected by the FBI of having hacked into several companies, notably American ones. He faces a sentence of 116 years in prison. His relatives are fighting to obtain his return to France.
It is an anniversary that Sébastien Raoult would have done well because it has been a year to the day since the Spinalian was incarcerated in a Moroccan prison on June 1, 2022 and then extradited to the United States where he is imprisoned in Seattle in the Washington State. The 22-year-old is suspected by the FBI of being a hacker and part of a group of hackers ShinyHunters. For these suspicions of attacks against American companies, Sébastien Raoult incurs a sentence of 116 years in prison, in other words life imprisonment. For a year, his relatives have been struggling to obtain a return to France, in vain for the moment.
Sébastien Raoult’s parents have always remained in contact with their son since his arrest. First, they were able to meet him twice last December in Morocco before his extradition to the United States. Since then, they have been able to reach him regularly on the telephone because calls between detainees and their families are authorized. But a year after his arrest and several months after his extradition to the United States, anger prevails.
My son is illegally imprisoned in America. He is a hostage, he was kidnapped by the Americans and the French authorities still do not intervene
Paul Raoult, father of Sébastien
The inertia of the French authorities is pointed out by Paul Raoult, Sébastien’s dad who confided in our reporting team made up of Sophie Valsecchi and Eric Bertrand: “At first, we tell ourselves it’s not serious, the French authorities are going to intervene, it won’t last… And then the days pass, we realize that the French authorities are not moving, are not contacting us, that the consulate there on the spot intervenes at least. So then, we alerted the media, politicians, we sent letters to the ministries. Today, there is still no intervention from the French authorities, the UN’s highest legal body, has requested the suspension of this extradition. That is, my son is illegally imprisoned in America. He is a hostage, he was kidnapped by the Americans and the French authorities are still not intervening.”
Faced with this situation, Sébastien Raoult filed a complaint against X for infringement of his fundamental freedoms. The young man and his family are still trying to find out why his extradition to the United States was not prevented and why no effort was made by the French authorities to have him repatriated to France. Remember that for the time being, the trial of the young man is scheduled in the United States on January 16, 2024.
