“It is not easy to recognize oneself as a caregiver. It must not be taboo. We all have the right to have fragilities,” declared the Minister responsible for Solidarity Aurore Bergé after having signed a commitment charter for caregivers with large companies (Axa, Hermès, Accor, JC Decaux, Bouygues, etc.)

The term “employee caregivers” refers to employees who support a loved one with a disability, loss of autonomy or suffering from a chronic or disabling illness.

“The fact that large companies are getting involved means that the climate changes in the company so that people feel less alone, so that we can simply say ‘I’m supporting a child, I’m accompany a parent, I accompany my husband and I need someone to be able to accompany me,” she said.

“And it must not disrupt the professional life of those who are confronted (with this situation). They will not have to resign, change companies. We can be helpful and lead a professional life,” said added the minister.

The signatory companies have committed to respecting “ten commitments” around four axes: “to develop representations linked to the situation of employee-carers”, “to create an environment” which is “favorable” to them, “to eliminate discriminatory practices” towards them and “help with the return” of a parent-carer employee.

“Everyone is proud to arrive in the company and say ‘I have just become a dad or a mom’. It’s more complicated to be able to say ‘You know, this weekend, mom fell and I been warned by a neighbor+. It’s very much a question of free speech”, comments Emmanuelle Lievremont, Director of Health and Quality of life at work at L’Oréal, who came to sign this charter.

According to her, the commitment of large groups “will necessarily move the lines in companies”.
