Jakarta –
Hugo Lloris wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The 36-year-old goalkeeper from France feels that his time at the club is over.
“We have arrived at an important moment, both for the club and for me. It’s the end of an era. I have desires for other things, I will reflect well, study what the possibilities are,” Lloris told Nice-Matin, quoted The Guardians.
“But I don’t forget that I still have one year left on my contract at Tottenham and in football it’s always difficult to predict the future. Now the most important thing is to recover well from injuries.”
“I’m on holiday now but I’m continuing to talk and keep training. I’ve set my sights on being back in peak condition in July, then let’s see what the future holds,” he explained.
For the first time since 2012, Lloris failed to bring Spurs to appear on the European stage after only finishing eighth in the 2022-23 Premier League. The performance was not satisfactory. He conceded 45 times in 31 matches and only recorded nine clean sheets.
The last game he played in April was like a nightmare. He conceded five goals in 20 minutes to Newcastle United in the first half, then was substituted with a hip injury at halftime. He was also out until the end of the season.
“We failed as a team because we couldn’t turn around a number of situations. It’s disappointing, but that’s part of top-flight football. The most important thing is to prepare well for next season and learn from mistakes,” Lloris explained.
