French Foreign Ministry: Settler violence in the West Bank is a policy of terrorism

France denounced the violence of Israeli settlers in the West Bank, describing it as a “terrorism policy” aimed at displacing Palestinians. It also stressed, in the context of the war on Gaza, that Israel does not have the right to decide who will rule the Strip in the future.

This came in statements made by French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anne-Claire Legendre to reporters on Thursday, where she called on Israel to protect Palestinians in the West Bank from settler violence.

Settlers’ attacks on residents of Palestinian cities and villages escalated coinciding with the Israeli war on Gaza, and the occupation forces also increased the pace of their raids into cities and camps in the West Bank, where about 200 Palestinians were martyred by occupation bullets since the seventh of last October.

Rule of Gaza

Regarding the war on the Gaza Strip, which continues for the 41st day, Legendre said that Israel does not have the right to decide who will rule the Strip in the future, stressing that it must be part of the future Palestinian state.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had stated that Israel would not give up full security responsibility in Gaza after the war, as he put it, while the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) confirmed that Gaza would only be governed by its people.

American press reports stated that differences are increasing between the administration of President Joe Biden and the Netanyahu government regarding the plans for the war on Gaza and its consequences. The US administration has repeatedly announced that it rejects any plan to reoccupy the Gaza Strip.

On the other hand, the French Foreign Ministry indicated that nearly half of the 100 tons of aid that Paris sent to Gaza had entered the Strip.
