French Envoy’s Mission: Seeking Support and Pressure for Dialogue in Lebanese Crisis

It was stated in Al-Diyar:

In light of the “negative balance”, in the words of a political source, the task of the French envoy, Jean-Yves Le Drian, seems difficult unless he comes, in light of his contacts with the countries involved in the Lebanese file, with a shipment or a dose of support and pressure to open the doors of dialogue between the Lebanese.

According to the source, the French envoy will discuss during the next week, in his move towards these countries, the idea of holding this dialogue, the foundations on which it is supposed to be built, and whether it will be confined to the President of the Republic or will it affect other issues related to the Lebanese crisis.

Informed sources told Al Diyar that Paris is focusing, through Le Drian’s mission, on gaining influential external support to produce a “realistic solution” that takes into consideration facilitating the election of a president and agreeing on the foundations of the post-election period.

In response to a question about the impact of the recent events in France on Le Drian’s mission, the sources said, “These events are preoccupying the French leadership at the present time, but they will not affect its follow-up to the Lebanese file and the course of the mission of the French presidential envoy, especially since Paris is counting on the success of this mission and on Its external role, whether with regard to the situation in Lebanon or with regard to other external files.
