French energy giants call on French people to immediately use less energy

TotalEnergies, EDF and Engie called on the French on Sunday morning to ‘immediately’ reduce their energy consumption in order to better weather the coming winter.

The three French energy giants refer to the sharply declining supply of Russian gas and the reduced European power capacity due to maintenance work. The production of energy from hydropower is also more limited due to the drought. ‘Taking action together this summer will enable us to replenish our own gas reserves and be in a better position for the coming winter.’

“Every effort counts. Reducing energy consumption must be collective, rapid and massive,” reads an opinion in le Journal du Dimanche, signed by Patrick Pouyanné (TotalEnergies), Jean-Bernard Levy (EDF) and Catherine MacGregor (Engie).

The three top executives also warn that rising energy prices will erode purchasing power and lead to social and political tensions.

‘The best energy is the energy we don’t use’, emphasize the energy giants that citizens and companies call on all to do their part. They call for a ‘major action plan’ to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy waste.
