Of documentary On the Adamant won the top prize at the Berlin Film Festival on Saturday. The film by French director Nicolas Philibert won the Golden Bear, the prize for the best film. A Silver Bear was also awarded to a child.
The film is about a boat in Paris where patients with psychological problems are taken care of. “I’ve tried to reverse the so discriminatory image we often have of crazy people,” said Philibert after receiving the award. “Even if we can’t identify with them, I want us to be able to at least acknowledge what connects us.”
The award for best acting performance went to a child this year. Only nine-year-old Sofía Otero received a Silver Bear for her leading role in the film 20,000 species of bees. According to the film festival, Otero is the youngest winner in the history of the ‘Berlinale’.
Another important prize went to the French filmmaker Philippe Garrel. He was awarded the Best Director award for the film The Big Cart. Silver Bears were also there for, among other things Thea honor (best supporting actor) and the best screenplay was in favour, according to the jury Music. That award was received by Angela Schanelec.
Actress Kristen Stewart was this year’s jury chairman at the Berlin Film Festival. The 73rd edition of the film festival comes to an end on Sunday.
