Jakarta –
Government French has decided to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles, which could help Ukrainian troops strike targets far behind troop lines Russia. This reaped the threat of retaliation from the Russian government.
“From our point of view, this decision was a mistake with consequences for the parties Ukrainebecause this of course will force us to take countermeasures,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Reported by the news agency AFP, Tuesday (11/7/2023), French plans to supply long-range missiles were revealed by President Emmanuel Macron after arriving at the NATO Summit which was held in Lithuania this week. The meeting of NATO member countries is expected to focus on discussing Ukraine’s battle against the Russian invasion.
Macron said that Paris would send supplies of SCALP missiles, which had previously been supplied by Britain under the name ‘Storm Shadow’.
Macron said the delivery of the long-range missiles was designed to allow Kyiv to strike at Moscow’s forces “in depth” during a counteroffensive aimed at retaking its Russian-occupied territories.
The long-range SCALP or Storm Shadow missile is an Anglo-French weapon with a range of 250 kilometers — the longest range Western-made weapon supplied to Ukraine so far.
In May, Britain announced it would supply a more advanced batch of weapons.
