French Clara Burel advances to quarter-finals at Strasbourg tournament

French Clara Burel reached the quarter-finals of the Strasbourg tournament, winning two sets to nil (7-5, 7-6) against Estonian Kaia Kanepi on Tuesday midday.

Burel, 122nd in the world at the WTA, will face the winner of the match between Australian Kimberly Birrell and American Bernarda Pera, seeded No. 4 in the quarter-finals of the Alsatian tournament.

The 22-year-old Frenchwoman dismissed Romanian Sorana Cirstea, seeded n°5 (7-6 [5]7-5), before her qualification on Tuesday against Kanepi, 76th player in the world at the WTA.

The 37-year-old Estonian tennis player had clearly beaten the Chinese Xinyu Wang (6-3, 6-2).
