French charm in the New Year concerts of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra / Article

The lightness, charm and sophistication of the French – such a festive mood is conjured up by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, playing music by French composers of different times. Camilla Sensans’ Fifth Piano Concerto is saturated with Spanish and Middle Eastern intonations and creates a completely carnival-like feeling. The concert is also a test of virtuosity for its performers.

“Equanimity Trio” together with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra performs music by French composer Debussy, Ravel, Bizet, Sati and Sensans in the arrangement of pianist Edgars Cīrulis and bassist Jānis Rubiks. Their arrangements connect jazz, hand, world music with academic music, at the same time proving respect for the classics and their freedom of expression. It is exciting to play a trio with a symphony orchestra.

The French spirit and elegance are also given to the concert by the maestro himself, conductor Gillenne Masmondé, who is happy to work with our symphony orchestra and trio: “I was very surprised and intrigued to receive notes from the musicians of the Equanimity Trio. Our collaboration was very successful. “Arrangements reveal French lightness and poetry, including humor. Interpreting French music requires airiness and transparency. We seem to succeed.”

The concert will be broadcast live on December 30 at 7 pm on Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika”.
