The French ambassador to Australia, who had been called to Paris for consultations over the submarine crisis, will return to Canberra, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian announced on Wednesday.
“I have asked our ambassador to return to Canberra with two objectives, to help redefine the terms of our relationship with Australia in the future … and to firmly defend our interests in the concrete implementation of the Australian decision to end the program of future submarines, “said Le Drian during a speech in the National Assembly.
