Actress Isabelle Adjani has been sentenced to a fine of 250,000 euros in France for tax evasion. The film star has also received a suspended prison sentence of two years, the French news agency reports AFP.

Adjani, known for roles in films such as One Deadly Summer, Queen Margot in Camille Claudel, has, among other things, concealed a donation of 2 million euros. The actress also falsely stated that she lived in Portugal in 2016 and 2017.

Judges pointed out the “seriousness of the crimes”, which allowed Adjani to evade 236,000 euros in income taxes and 1.2 million euros in property taxes. Adjani’s lawyers say they are “dismayed” by Thursday’s verdict.

68-year-old Adjani is a famous actress in France. She has won the César for best actress five times. The film award is the French equivalent of an Oscar.
