The French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant, who in recent years was best known for his lead role in Amour, passed away on Friday at the age of 91. That’s what his family told the news agency AFP let them know.
Trintignant has appeared in more than 140 feature films since the 1950s, mainly in European productions. He played major roles in the classic thriller The conformist and the romantic drama Three colors: Red.
In 1968 he won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for his lead role in The man who lies. A year later he was awarded in Cannes for his role in the political thriller Z. That film later won the Oscar for best non-English language film.
In movie house hit Amour Trintignant can be seen as Georges, the husband of a woman who is becoming increasingly demented. The love drama was awarded a Golden Palm in 2012 and later also won the Oscar for best non-English language film. With director Michael Haneke, the actor made the family drama in 2017 Happy End.
Trintignant’s husband announces that the actor passed away on Friday in the south of France in the presence of his loved ones.
