Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël, Roquebrune and Draguignan … Is the wearing of a mask well respected?

Information from the prefecture fell like a chopper on Friday evening, taking a number of elected officials … and residents of the municipalities concerned.

After the municipalities of the Toulon metropolis, wearing a mask is now compulsory in the public space of a number of other Var municipalities, including Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël and Draguignan. As for Roquebrune-sur-Argens, the measure, taken by the mayor, has been in force since the day before.

“In prevention”

The various communication services of the municipalities in question then quickly communicated on social networks and the websites of the Cities to warn each citizen.

From Saturday morning, in Fréjus or Saint-Raphaël, the food markets, the seaside and the hearts of cities were visited by people in masks … or not.

Evelyne and Richard, a Raphael couple familiar with the prefectural decree, come out of the downtown hypermarket without removing their masks.

“We learned, Friday night on Facebook, that it was now compulsory, specifies the lady. But luckily I connected late at night, otherwise I would not have known. How do people who have not Internet or who have not thought of consulting social networks? “, she concludes.

“The municipality should post this prefectural decree on the public highway so that we all know it”, completes her husband.

A little further, in front of the Notre-Dame basilica, the municipal police officers keep watch. “Sir, please, you have to wear the mask, it’s now compulsory on public roads”, throws one of them to a passerby. The latter does so without flinching, apparently surprised by the news.

“There is absolutely no question of verbalizing this weekend, explains Philippe, one of the two police officers. It is true that not everyone is aware of it yet. We are therefore above all in dialogue and prevention, today and tomorrow. “

This tolerance is also expressed among the police in Fréjus. “We are aware that not everyone is necessarily aware of this decree, admits Hervé Eygazier, at the head of the municipal police. This is why we are above all in prevention, we inform the inhabitants of the content of the prefectural decree. Especially since there is also the attack alert plan, the priority is people’s safety. However, we will be stricter when it comes to wearing a mask from next week. “

“What does it cost you to put it on?”

In Fréjus-Plage, on Saturday, a good half of passers-by wore the mask. “I still don’t understand why we should put on a mask outside, here by the sea, far from the crowds”René mutters, mask in hand, refusing to put it on. But it is quickly taken up by his wife Chantal: “But what does it cost you to put it on? It’s still not complicated! And I don’t see how that restricts our freedoms. It’s a bad (long) time to pass!”

“Is it compulsory in Draguignan?”
