The Free State of Saxony is apparently sticking to its plan to set up an authority in Freital. As Lord Mayor Uwe Rumberg explained to the city council when asked, the Saxon Ministry of Finance recently got in touch. A representative of the ministry had informed the city that the so-called letter of intent would be extended, the mayor continued.
This Letter of Intent is a declaration of intent to install the House of Education in Freital. It is assigned to the State Office for Schools and Education and has so far been distributed over two locations in Dresden and Radebeul. In the future, these parts of the authorities will form a unit and be located in Freital.

The letter of intent for this was signed in August 2019 and expired on February 28, 2021.
House needed for 350 employees
As can be learned from the responsible ministries, a location is still being sought. The city says that the Free State has been given several possible plots of land on which to build. A rental property – a house is needed for up to 350 employees – is currently not available.
Two ministries are involved in the location search and planning. The Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs has to deal primarily with the space requirements, the Ministry of Finance approves the investment costs. “The investigation of the variants with regard to the most economical accommodation has not yet been completed, various variants are being examined by the Free State,” said press spokeswoman Sandra Jäschke from the Ministry of Finance.
The House of Education has been discussed since 2012. Above all, the member of the state parliament, Roland Wöller (CDU), at that time still minister of education, had campaigned for it. As things currently stand, it is unlikely that the money for the project will be included in the Free State’s 2021 budget.
This further delays the establishment of the official site in Freital.
