Freimanis, the former head of “Bank Baltija”, has been ordained a pastor in Latvia – News

According to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church (LELB), on August 14, two pastors were ordained in the Riga Archdiocese – Freimanis and Andrejs Irbe were ordained as assistant pastors in Riga Dome on Bishop Meinard’s Day. The service was led by the Lutheran Archbishop Jānis Vanags.

Freimanis will continue to serve in the New St. Gertrude Church in Riga, cooperating with Pastor Guntars Dimants, and in the Riga Holy Spirit Church, where he has previously served as an evangelist. Freimanis is also the chaplain of the Luther Academy “Luther Academy”.

Irbe will continue to serve as an assistant pastor in two districts – Pinki St. John’s Parish in Jurmala District and Riga Martin Parish in Riga District.

As reported, in April 2009, after more than ten years of litigation, the criminal case of “Banka Baltija” came into force, by which the former head of the bank’s Supervisory Board Aleksandrs Lavents and the bank’s president Freimanis were found guilty of some of the crimes charged against them. Alvi Līdums, the third co-accused, the head of the L&A office, was acquitted by the court.

Lavent and Freimanis were charged with damages, embezzlement of depositors, deliberate concealment of accounting data, bogus business and bankruptcy, and Freimanis was charged as an accomplice.

Both were sentenced to actual prison terms – seven years and seven months for Levent and five years and six months for Freiman, both of whom had already served their sentences at the time the sentence came into force.
