An empty wagon from a goods yard was derailed this afternoon in Leusden in Utrecht. The train is blocking the level crossing from the Groene Zoom in the direction of Leusden, an important through road. Traffic therefore has to detour.
It is not yet clear how long the delay will last, but according to a spokesperson for rail manager ProRail, it is a ‘decent time’. The police are on site to direct traffic.
According to eyewitnesses, the freight wagon overturned on a switch just in front of a shunting yard of a car importer. The carriage had contained auto parts. They had just been released. This is reported by the spokesperson for ProRail RTV Utrecht.
The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate is investigating how the accident could have happened.
