Freiburg: Y11 – Wölfe Freiburg reward themselves with a 2-1 home win against Dresdner Eislöwen – Hard work, team spirit and an outstanding Luis Benzing in goal lead to the second home win of the season

Tonight, the EHC Freiburg won at home in front of 902 vaccinated or recovered and tested spectators against third-placed Dresden with 2: 1. The Wolves, who have won all three games since the international break, achieved this important second home win through a unified team performance over the entire 60 minutes of the game.

After an evenly balanced first ten minutes of play, in which the Freiburg team developed some top-class chances, the guests from Saxony were able to put themselves in the limelight and gain the upper hand more and more often. The hosts defended cleverly and were not embarrassed by a penalty time against captain Simon Danner.

In the second third, the Wolves succeeded better in harassing Dresden and in the 25th minute of the game Scott Allen completed an attack over Nick Pageau and Jordan George with the acclaimed 1-0. The Canadian got the decisive pass standing in the middle of the attacking third and loaded the Dresden goalkeeper Janick Schwendener with a nice wrist shot. As a result, both teams could not use two outnumbered games and so the narrow Freiburg lead went into the second break.

In the last section, the guests stepped up their efforts to compensate. The goal scenes changed from one side to the other and in the 46th minute Johan Porsberger overcame Luis Benzing in a third or fourth margin.
The game remained exciting and fast-paced and a performance difference between the two teams could not be seen over long stretches.
The wolves disturbed the guests early on and repeatedly captured the puck in the opposing third of the defense. Christoph Kiefersauer succeeded in conquering one of these targets and forwarded the puck directly to Tyson McLellan. McLellan, in turn, saw Marc Wittfoth in a promising position and the surprised Schwendener with a quick twist to make it 2-1.
The remaining seven minutes of the game brought the wolves with a lot of effort and a growing Luis Benzing in the goal over the time. Newcomer Liam Finlay even had a 3.1 on his racket shortly before the end, but could not fit the target in the empty goal.

“We have finally rewarded ourselves for our hard work,” a relieved Robert Hoffmann praised his team after the game. Guest coach Andreas Brockmann recognized the hosts’ performance. “Freiburg made it very difficult for us to develop opportunities,” said Brockmann.

The wolves will play their next home game on Tuesday. The Eispiraten Crimmitschau will then be guests for the catch-up game in Breisgau.
