Freiburg: Y11 – Ice hockey: season opener for EHC Freiburg successful – Wolves win away to Landshut in extra time and beat Dresdner Eialöwen at home

5: 4 after extra time in Landshut and 2: 1 at home against Dresden: these are the facts for EHC Freiburg after the first two days of the new DEL2 season. This puts the wolves in fifth place with five out of six possible points.

The wolves in Landshut have already done a decent performance on Friday. Even though Breisgauer got off to a bad start after the long journey and after 14 minutes of play they were 1: 3 behind.
Patrick Cerveny had to reach behind him for the first time after just 71 seconds. Although new signing Martin Réway drew three minutes later with a 1-1 majority, Landshut’s side also used two majority situations to take the 3-1 lead at half-time.
Freiburg manager Robert Hoffmann must have woken up his boys because the wolves came out of the dressing room transformed. Within exactly two minutes, Breisgauer equalized 3: 3. First Shawn O’Donnell used numerical superiority to connect, then Mick Hochreither shot 3: 3 on goal.
Soon after, Landshut managed to regain the lead thanks to Yannik Valenti, who Freiburger Tor Immo equalized again in the middle third.
In the last period both teams struggled to decide the game in regular time, but despite the good chances on both sides, no more goals were scored. In extra time, the hosts allowed themselves another penalty time, which Calvin Pokorny was able to use to score 4: 5 for Freiburg.

This Sunday, the wolves met Dresdner Eislöwen at home. The highly rated Saxons lost their home game to Ravensburg 3-0 on Friday and were hoping to remedy the false start with an away win.
But the guests noticed the long journey and Freiburg took advantage of it to put Eislöwen under pressure right from the start. The wolves appeared perilously in front of Dresden’s goal several times in the opening minutes, but despite best chances they didn’t score until the 12th minute.
So Calvin Pokorny left half of the puck on the racquet and the defender just hit dry. The puck slipped onto Dresden goalkeeper Jonas Neffin, who was preferred to Janick Schwandern today, through schooners and was not undeservedly 1-0.
Four minutes later, Freiburg’s top scorer Tor Immo had to go into the penalty area for four minutes and Dresden drew a bit flattering.

In the third central, the guests are strengthened and a lively game develops with chances on both sides. Numerous sometimes insignificant penalties have given both teams overtime situations again and again, which neither could use at the start.
Shortly before the end of the middle third, Freiburg plays once again with one more man, Tor Immo shoots on goal from the inside right. Neffin fished the puck out of the air with his gripping hand, but Immo immediately complained and demanded a decision on the goal from the weak team of referees. The Swede believed Neffin caught the hard puck only from behind the goal line, which after studying the video evidence turned out to be correct. So it was 2-1 for Freiburg after two periods.

Emotions increased in the final section. The referees countered this with sometimes incomprehensible decisions. They denied the Freiburgers several advantages with clear penalties for Dresden and a bad control against Nikolas Linsemaier’s head was punished by the referees with just a two-minute penalty.
Despite all the confusion, the hosts stayed on track and brought the small advantage with exemplary commitment and a bit of luck over time.

After the match, visiting coach Andreas Brockmann explained that his team’s lack of commitment was the cause of the defeat and Robert Hoffmann was pleased with his team’s performance, aside from penalties.

Next weekend the wolves will travel to Weißwasser in Lausitz on Friday before ESV Kaufbeuren will visit Breisgau on Sunday. Due to the family day, the game will start at 5pm.
