BVB brings DFB defender Schlotterbeck

Borussia Dortmund celebrates the next transfer coup: With Nico Schlotterbeck from Freiburg, another national player is moving to the Bundesliga club. SC Freiburg, on the other hand, seems to be facing a spectacular obligation itself.
It is one of the last official acts of the outgoing BVB sports director Michael Zorc and it is a coup: Nico Schlotterbeck changes from SC Freiburg to Borussia Dortmund. As the club announced, the national player signed a contract with the Bundesliga club until June 30, 2027. “Nico Schlotterbeck is a young German national player who has made great progress. His profile fits BVB perfectly,” said Zorc, who was his resign at the end of the season.
Zorc’s successor Sebastian Kehl, who once switched from SC Freiburg to BVB and became a champion player there, seconded: Schlotterbeck “by no means chose the economically best offer from among many interested clubs, but deliberately chose BVB in order to develop further in sport here .” The transfer fee for the two-time national player is said to be 20 million euros plus success-related bonuses. The 1.91 meter tall defender has played 53 competitive games for Freiburg so far.
SC Freiburg, meanwhile, is said to be on the verge of a spectacular transfer coup itself: As “Bild” and “Sport Bild” report, world champion Matthias Ginter is said to be about to return to Breisgau. The international had already announced months ago that he was leaving his current club Borussia Mönchengladbach after the end of the season. Ginter started his Bundesliga career at SC Freiburg before finally ending up in Mönchengladbach via Borussia Dortmund. The announcement of Schlotterbeck’s change is an indication of the next top-class personnel at SC Freiburg, but confirmation is still pending.
Big plans for SC Freiburg
Nico Schlotterbeck had become a fixture in the Bundesliga at SC Freiburg this season and eventually became a national team player. “In consultation with all parties involved, I have decided to announce my move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022. I want to create clarity for SC Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund and myself personally,” said Schlotterbeck in the BVB statement added: “It is important for me to be able to concentrate fully on the remaining three games with SC Freiburg, which we will hopefully play successfully in the home stretch of the season. After that, I look forward to the new tasks with BVB .”
The 22-year-old can still achieve great things with SC Freiburg before he leaves: The people of Breisgau are currently in a sensational fourth place, which would entitle them to play in the Champions League. The club, with central defender Schlotterbeck, will also play against RB Leipzig in the final for the DFB Cup on May 21 in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium – it would be the first major title in the club’s history.
With the transfer of Schlotterbeck, the DFB central defense in Borussia Dortmund’s kit is complete for the coming season: With Niklas Süle, another national player will defend for Borussia Dortmund in the future. The change Süles from FC Bayern to the league competitor has been fixed since February.
