Freiburg: Wine festival starts on July 30th

In close cooperation with the winegrowing companies in Breisgau, on the Kaiserstuhl, in Markgräflerland and around the Tuniberg, Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG (FWTM) is organizing the 49th Freiburg Wine Festival after a two-year corona break.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of the wine glasses will be donated to the Münsterbauverein and Freiburg’s Ukrainian sister city, Lviv.

After the Freiburg Wine Festival could not take place in the past two years due to the corona pandemic, this year visitors can again look forward to a large selection of high-quality wines and sparkling wines as well as culinary specialties from all locations in southern Baden in front of the historic backdrop of the cathedral.

The participating wineries will be divided into ten different areas: the Markgräfler wineries and winegrowers’ cooperatives, the Badische Winzerkeller, the Freiburg wineries, the Batzenberg/Schönberg wineries, the Kaiserstuhl
Winegrowers’ cooperatives, the Pinot generation, the Tuniberger winegrowers’ cooperative, the Breisgau winegrowers’ cooperative, the Freiburg foundation winery and the Alte Wache – Haus der Badischen Weine GmbH.

Various dishes are also offered in each area. The new restaurateurs are the Lichtblick restaurant, the Heiliggeist Stüble, the Schwab fishery, the Zum Bunten Onkel restaurant, the Das Blümchen restaurant and the Eismanufaktur from Freiburg, as well as the Hartmann butcher from Schallstadt and the Reichenbach butcher from the Glottertal.

This year, more tapas and snacks will be offered to hand, says Franziska Pankow from FWTM. The reason is that there are staff problems at the restaurateurs due to the emigration of employees during the Corona period.

The Freiburg Wine Festival will be opened on Thursday, June 30 at 6:00 p.m. in front of the historic department store by Mayor Stefan Breiter and FWTM Managing Director Hanna Böhme.

Traditionally, the newly elected Baden wine sovereigns are presented to the public as part of the opening ceremony.

This year, visitors will again be offered a varied music program at the Generation Pinot, the Alte Wache, the Stiftungsweingut and the Badischer Winzerkeller, which will be designed by various bands and DJs.

Among others, Martin Mingres, kamida and Maria Kofler will perform with sax’n more.

“With the Freiburg Wine Festival, a piece of normality is returning to the heart of Freiburg. At the same time, we share the worries and fears of the citizens of our partner city Lviv and would like to send another sign of solidarity with the donation,” said Mayor Breiter.
