One year of the corona pandemic with severe cuts in both private and club life on December 18, 2020 was also behind the approximately 137 members of the Freiburg amateur radio association, A05. Numerous events and meetings, such as the annual general meeting, had to be canceled. But let his club friends just go into the Christmas and New Year seasons …? That was out of the question for the chairman of the local association, Alexander Brüske (callsign DL1AFA) and his deputy Axel Lehmann (DG3AL). A corona-safe alternative was needed! And so the member Markus Wallschlag (DH5WM) set up a professional presentation page via video stream on the “Treff-Punkt DARC” page of the German Amateur Radio Club.

A year of event cancellations!

The members of the local association who were logged in by computer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening were amazed. The chairman and deputy presented themselves in the best image quality and summed up the year 2020 in text and images among their live images. The tone of the speakers was even more understandable than in many of the virologists’ television comments. Respect! And so the chairmen drew a sobering balance sheet of the year 2020. If you could still boast with a more than well-attended New Year’s reception at the beginning of the year, the events of the radio amateurs diminished more and more. At least there were still some specialist lectures. Among other things, the digital radio type DMR, the portable power supply or the use of the digital microcontroller Arduino. Then the blatant turning point in club life, the closure of the clubhouse! As an alternative to the Friday club evenings, people met on the frequencies from then on. Only twice was there any hope of personal interaction. On the one hand, people met for the “SSB Fielday” – a portable shortwave competition – at the Attilafelsen near Merdingen near Freiburg and a meeting in front of the clubhouse. Both events of course at a corona-safe distance! The desolation of those condemned to do nothing was at least loosened up with the in-house “Breisgau FM competition”!

“It’s all in the stars!”

Finally, the chairmen wished them a pleasant holiday and thanked the numerous active members in the local association for their commitment in a wide variety of areas. They make for a lively club life, if it were that time again. “No outlook for 2021!” Emphasized Brüske and regretted: “It’s all in the stars!”
