Freiburg: Traffic police stop overloaded van on the BAB 5 near Freiburg – further travel was prohibited

On Thursday morning, February 25th, 2021, a patrol of the Freiburg traffic police checked a small truck driving from Spain to Denmark on the BAB 5 near Freiburg, which was obviously “hanging heavily”.

When looking at the loading area, the officials first noticed that the small truck was transporting far too many paving stones and gardening items. The continued journey had to be prohibited due to the overload.

The examination of the vehicle driver was not without consequences. There was an arrest warrant against him for violating the Narcotics and Weapons Act.

In addition, the driver in Germany had been deprived of his right to drive a motor vehicle due to character deficiencies for over a year, which is why the driver was then also reported to the Freiburg public prosecutor for driving without a license.

In addition to a replacement vehicle for the excess cargo, the shipping company also had to send a replacement driver.

The financial consequences of the trip were not insignificant: As part of a so-called collection procedure, the responsible forwarding company had to pay an amount of 850 euros. The driver was able to avert his admission to the correctional facility by paying an amount of 1,600 euros.
