Freiburg: Study on the influence of the intestinal microbiome on COVID-19 vaccination protection – Freiburg University Hospital is looking for study participants – Registrations are possible until June 30th

Every day more people receive a vaccination against SARS-CoV-2, which is very effective in preventing COVID-19 disease. The Institute for Prevention and Tumor Epidemiology at the Freiburg University Medical Center is now investigating in a new study how long the vaccination protection lasts and what factors the duration of its effectiveness depends on. The aim is to investigate the time course of SARS-CoV-2 antibody formation in the blood and the influence of the intestinal microbiome on the strength and duration of antibody formation. For this purpose, 200 people who – regardless of the study – are vaccinated with the BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine will be observed over an 18-month period. During this period, immune antibodies in the blood and the intestinal microbiome are examined.

For this study, the Freiburg University Medical Center is looking for people aged 50 to 65 who have not yet been vaccinated and who are interested in participating in the study as part of their COVID-19 vaccination.

The study is open to people who:
– are interested in a COVID-19 vaccination regardless of the study
– are between 50-65 years old
– have not previously suffered from COVID-19
– do not suffer from a serious chronic illness
– have not taken any antibiotics in the past three months

The study participants receive:
– Help with arranging your vaccination appointments
– repeated determination of the antibodies over 18 months
– an online shopping voucher for 50 euros at the end of the study as an expense allowance

The study includes two blood samples before the first and second vaccination as well as up to four appointments (ten minutes each) over a period of 18 months and includes the donation of two stool samples and up to five blood samples. The participants will receive detailed information about the study and all the necessary documents in advance by post.
