Freiburg: Without a driver’s license and on a suspected stolen scooter on the road – two suspects provisionally arrested

Freiburg (ots) –

A 20-year-old and a 29-year-old man drove through Freiburg on a suspected stolen scooter without a valid driving license early on Tuesday morning, August 8th, 2023.

A police patrol noticed the scooter driving along Basler Straße in the direction of Freiburg-Haslach at around 3 a.m.; both the rider and the passenger were not wearing a helmet. After a short pursuit, the vehicle was stopped at a narrow passage at the intersection of Carl-Kistner-Strasse and Magdalena-Gerber-Strasse, causing the scooter to tip over and both people to fall. The 29-year-old passenger attempted to evade control on foot. However, after a short pursuit on foot, he was temporarily arrested, and the 20-year-old driver was also temporarily arrested.

According to the current status of the investigation, there is a suspicion that it was a stolen scooter (Piaggio Vespa, black). In addition, there was no license plate on the scooter, so there is a suspicion that the vehicle does not have valid compulsory insurance. The scooter was secured and the two suspects are being investigated.
