Freiburg Nurse Murder Trial Verdict: Accused of Killing 89-Year-Old Woman

Freiburg (dpa) – The Freiburg regional court wants to announce its verdict today in the murder trial of a 26-year-old nurse. The defendant is accused of murdering an 89-year-old woman out of greed. According to the indictment, the man from Poland also has to answer for attempted robbery resulting in death.

The 26-year-old was employed as a caregiver for a couple in Herbolzheim in the Emmendingen district and lived in the house. The man, who was heavily drunk at the time of the crime, is said to have severely beaten the elderly woman, injured her with a knife or scissors and locked her in the boiler room at the end of October last year.

The 89-year-old had previously noticed that the nurse wanted to steal jewelry. She was still able to alert the police. The seriously injured victim died in a clinic a few days after the attack.

The defendant’s lawyer had already said at the beginning of October that he would not comment on the allegations during the trial. According to the criminal code, murder carries a life sentence.
