Freiburg: Network for early help in Freiburg: Extended offers for parents-to-be and families with children under the age of three – the city offers support through advice and assistance

With the Early Help Network, the city of Freiburg supports expectant parents and families with children under the age of three by providing advice and assistance. This is more important than ever, because the corona pandemic, which has been going on for more than two years, is taking a heavy emotional toll on many families. Above all, the everyday life of young families has changed due to gaps in childcare, the loss of support from relatives, restricted exchange with other families, concerns about infection or existential worries.

The specialist centers in the network have adapted their offers for families with infants and small children to the situation: for example, counseling offers are also available via chat or video or are being moved outdoors. “In order to specifically relieve and support young families in the corona pandemic, the range of services has also been significantly expanded,” says Christine Buchheit, Mayor of Education. The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs’ “Catching up after Corona” funding program, which will run until the end of the year, has made nine offers possible for the Early Help Network:
