Freiburg, Lenzkirch: Kilometers of support for children’s hospice work – Federal Association for Children’s Hospice becomes a charity partner at the MEIN FREIBURG MARATHON (April 3, 2022) – Registration as a “social runner” possible

To support families with a child with a life-shortening illness, there will be a separate starting field for the large MEIN FREIBURG MARATHON on April 3rd. Anyone who registers on the MEIN FREIBURG MARATHON website as a “socialrunner” in the children’s hospice team donates ten euros to the Federal Children’s Hospice Association.
The marathon organizers, the South Baden Athletics Association and the Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe (FWTM), support children’s hospice work with ten percent of the entry fee.

The MEIN FREIBURG MARATHON is one of the most important sporting events in southern Germany – over 12,000 people take part in the running event and compete at many different distances. On April 3, 2022, the starting signal for the major event will be given – this time also in favor of children’s hospice work.

Jonas Veeser, organizer of the marathon at the FWTM, is pleased about the partnership with the Federal Association of Children’s Hospice: “It is important to us to support charitable work with our event, and children’s hospice work is certainly an area that is often overlooked”. The runners who start from the starting field of the “Team Children’s Hospice” cannot be overlooked. “They will all wear the symbol of a very special angel,” reveals Sabine Kraft, managing director of the Federal Association of Children’s Hospice. The umbrella organization of the German children’s hospices is placing a stylized angel on the running shirts and the start numbers of the “social runners” as a sign of the around 50,000 life-shortening illnesses in Germany. “This angel was originally dedicated to 17-year-old Angelina, ‘Angel’, who died of a brain tumor in 2013,” explains Kraft. “It now stands for all the children and families for whom we stand up together!”

The Federal Association of Children’s Hospice is the umbrella organization for children’s hospice work in Germany and also supports families directly through its own aid for those affected. With the platform www.frag-OSKAR.de, the Federal Association has created a contact point for those affected and experts, where they can find help and advice around the clock, 365 days a year, free of charge and on request – by phone, email, chats or in personal consultation hours. The work of the Federal Association of Children’s Hospices is financed almost exclusively through donations. “We very much hope that we can win many athletic people to start working in the children’s hospice in April,” wishes Kraft and thanks them for the opportunity to help the children’s hospice work to attract more attention: “Not just for us, that we make offers of help for the families, also for the families themselves that is a great sign of solidarity! “
