Freiburg is not worth a trip – FC Augsburg loses its away game against an efficient sports club

The fact remains that FC Augsburg cannot score at SC Freiburg. After a game that was largely at eye level, the efficient team from Breisgau won 3:1.

FC Augsburg have played eleven times in the Bundesliga in Freiburg, and the Swabians have only won once there. Even after today’s clash, this balance sheet shouldn’t brighten up.

Two chances, two goals – Freiburg efficient

The sports club had already taken the lead in the 13th minute of the game. Just like in the first leg, the goal scorer was the former Augsburg player Gregoritsch. From an acute angle, he placed the ball over the far post in the goal with millimeter precision. As in the two previous games, Augsburg played well. After Demirovic was fouled by Kübler in the penalty area, Berisha stepped in from the penalty spot and scored to equalize. However, the 1:1 did not last long. Just 13 seconds after kick-off, the sports club was back in front. After a quick combination, Höler only had to push in after a cross pass from Doan. Freiburg was able to use its first two real chances directly. Despite Augsburg’s efforts, the half-time score could have been one goal higher. Gikiewicz was able to fend off the third goal with a brilliant deed after a shot by Gregoritsch (39′). Berisha missed the greatest chance of equalizing with a header shortly before the break.

FCA pushed for an equalizer after the change of sides, but were less efficient overall than the hosts. When Gumny went down in the sixteen after a duel with Lienhart, they would have liked to have had a second penalty kick, but referee Dingert decided it was a striker foul. Nothing came of the great chance of a draw. Even after this controversial scene, it remained a game at eye level and yet it was nothing with the second Augsburg victory in Breisgau.

Five minutes before the end, Lienhart headed in a corner kick to decide the goal. For FCA it was the fifth defeat in a row at the sports club. The fact remains: Freiburg is not worth a trip for the pine nut kickers!
