Boulder threatens car and rail traffic: blasting planned
–
He is still held by a tree – but so that a huge boulder does not fall on the railway line and B31, he is to be blown up. A difficult undertaking in the narrow Höllental.
–
Because it threatens the most important east-west connection in the southern Black Forest, a huge boulder is to be blown up today in Höllental near Freiburg. The colossus, which is estimated to weigh up to 60 tons, is hanging on a tree in a forest and could fall. For safety reasons, the busy federal highway 31 through the narrow, winding Höllental and the railway line have been closed since Monday evening. Travelers and commuters are brought to their destination by bus via detours.
If everything goes according to plan, trains should roll through the Höllental again from Sunday. The stretch of road is to be opened soon after the blast. Rockfalls have often occurred in Höllental. Experts speak of a “rockfall season” at the transition from winter to spring.
