The wolves started the match with a faceoff win and created the first good scoring opportunity with the first attack. It wasn’t until the 17th minute that the hosts were able to celebrate for the first time, but by then the wolves were the clear hosts.
Then Christoph Kiefersauer grabbed the puck and a heart and lunged at the well-kept Belov in Krefeld’s gate. With a tight wrist shot, the Freiburg striker charged the visiting goalkeeper and converted to 1-0.
Even after taking the lead, the wolves kept the pressure and pushed for the 2-0.
The Breisgauers did not give up even when the opponents had possession of the target and usually regained it in the third opponent.
After the break, the guests got a little stronger, but the wolves were still superior. In particular, the series around top scorer Tor Immo and Shawn O’Donnell repeatedly presented guests with almost unsolvable tasks, and the 2-0 was long overdue.
Calvin Pokorny then succeeded, who fired without humor and overtook Belov with a powerful shot.
The visitors gave back hope two minutes later when Zach Magwood narrowed the gap to 2-1. However, Krefeld’s goal was scored after an offside position, which the referees overlooked.
The guests got into the game better now, but the wolves took the narrow lead to rest over time.
The guests created more good chances on the final lap and Calvin Pokorny saved for his already beaten goalkeeper Patrick Cerveny and scraped the puck off the line.
A Krefeld foul gave the wolves some respite in the 55th minute and Christian Billich scored the redeemer 3: 1 in the outnumbered match. In the penultimate minute, Nikolas Linsemaier scored 4: 1 after Belov cleared the goal for a sixth field player.
The Freiburg side deservedly won against Krefeld thanks to their outstanding performance and drew on points with league favorites from the Rhineland.
“We have studied Freiburg thoroughly and still have not been able to find a recipe against strong wolves,” explained Krefeld manager Leif Strömberg after the match.
“We had a great weekend,” praised Freiburg manager Robert Hoffmann. “We have a great atmosphere in the team. Each of the boys wants to sacrifice himself for the team, “continued Hoffmann.
Wolves will play Crimmitschau next Friday and expect Ravensburg to be the next league favorite on Sunday.
