Freiburg: Ice hockey: Nikolas Linsemaier extends his contract with EHC Freiburg – striker and identification figure remain “Wolfen” – Nicolas Pageau leaves the club

With 28-year-old Nikolas Linsemaier, EHC Freiburg can present another contract extension for the 2022/23 DEL2 season.

Nikolas Linsemaier stands for ice hockey in Freiburg through and through. The attacker has already played almost 600 games in the jersey of EHC Freiburg, putting him in third place in the most games in the club’s history. With over 600 points, including over 250 goals, the man with the number 9 shirt is also the most successful German attacker to have laced up for Freiburg. In the past season, the left-handed shooter has 22 points in 49 games. In the playoffs, he was also the Wolves’ top scorer with seven points in six games and was instrumental in reaching the quarterfinals. It is now certain that “Niko” will continue to hunt for points for EHC Freiburg in the coming season.

Sports director Peter Salmik: “We worked through the past season meticulously, analyzed and also critically examined it. We know what he’s capable of and what he’s capable of, and we’re certain that he’ll be able to continue his performance. He is also aware of the situation and knows what we expect from him. When he has found his game, he is by far one of the best German attackers in the DEL2 and we are happy to still have him in our ranks.”

Head coach Robert Hoffmann: “Niko had a difficult season with his injury in preparation. The longer he played, the easier it was for him to come in and put himself at the service of the team from the back. His own demands are higher than what he showed at times in the past season and we will work on that together. For me, too, he is still one of the absolute top players in the league and we are more than happy to have such a player in our team.”

Nikolas Linsemaier himself adds: “I am incredibly happy to be able to continue to stand on the ice for my home and heart club. Together we will do everything we can to build on our successes and offer our great fans attractive ice hockey. I would also like to do my part personally and can hardly wait to see everyone back in our “living room”.

However, Nicolas Pageau will leave the club. The 34-year-old defensive specialist has decided against offers from EHC Freiburg and will be looking for a new challenge. Pageau came to Breisgau in the 2019/20 season and quickly distinguished himself as an absolute top performer and crowd favorite with his calm, experience and goal threat. During his three years at EHC Freiburg, the defender also wore the assistant captain’s “A” on his chest and scored a total of 128 points. We would like to thank Nicolas Pageau for his dedication and commitment in the jersey of EHC Freiburg and wish him all the best for his sporting and private future.
