Freiburg: Ice hockey: Martin Réway joins the wolves – EHC Freiburg fills the second contingent position for the upcoming DEL2 season

With the 27-year-old Martin Réway, the Wolves can present another striker, newcomer and contingent player.

The Slovak learned to play ice hockey in his home country at MHC Martin. With a detour via the Canadian junior elite league (QMJHL), he made his senior debut for the traditional club HC Sparta Prague in the 2014/2015 season. In his first season, the attacker scored 37 points in 34 main round games and was the third-best scorer at the age of 20. Just one year later, the left-handed shooter was again able to conjure up 15 points in 14 games for HC Sparte Prague and a little later 21 points in 19 games for HC Fribourg-Gotteron in the top Swiss division. In addition, this year Réway wore the “A” of the assistant captain with the Slovakian national team on his chest. As early as 2013, he was drafted 116th in the NHL draft by the Montreal Candiens and was thus finally on the ice in the 2017/18 season with the Laval Rockets in the North American AHL and ended the season in the international elite league KHL with 5 points in 18 games. Via Tingsryds AIF in Sweden, Rytíři Kladno in the Czech Republic, HK Poprad and HC Kosice in Slovakia, Martin Réway finally landed at HC Poruba last season, for whom he produced 20 points in 27 games. Now the dangerous and experienced striker joins the EHC Freiburg.

Peter Salmik, sporting director of EHC Freiburg: “Martin is a commitment that under normal circumstances could not have taken place with us. He actually belongs in higher leagues. Due to his health problems in recent years, however, there has been a setback in his career. He’s recovered now and we’re confident he’ll be able to play to the full with us and repay the trust we’ve placed in him.”

Head coach Robert Hoffmann adds: “He is an absolute playmaker and instinctive player. If he has three solutions, he even manages to find the fourth. He wants to seize his chance and we are very happy to be able to give him this opportunity. Martin will be a great addition to our squad for this important position.”

New signing Martin Réway on his move to Breisgau: “I’m really looking forward to playing for Freiburg next season. I’ve only heard good things about the club and the city with its history. I’m also a big football fan and can’t wait to experience a sports city like Freiburg. I’m confident we’re going to have a great season and I hope to help the team win as many games as possible. I especially hope to keep up the winning mentality and keep the Wolves fans in the hall happy next season.”
